Player's complaint

Betway's licensed entity reached an £11.6 million regulatory settlement with the UK Gambling Commission in 2020 covering AML failures specifically in the operator's VIP-handling programme. The UKGC investigation found that several individual VIP customers — who collectively deposited substantial amounts — were not subject to source-of-funds checks at the points the operator's own AML programme should have triggered them. One cited customer deposited £8 million across an 11-month period. Subsequent reviews led to substantial industry-wide tightening of VIP-handling rules.

Betway Casino response

Betway accepted the settlement, paid a substantial portion to the National Strategy to Reduce Gambling Harms, and overhauled its VIP-handling programme. The operator named individuals who had been removed from VIP team roles as part of the corrective action.
