A chargeback is a transaction reversal initiated through the card issuer rather than the merchant. For most consumer transactions, chargebacks provide a path to dispute fraudulent or undelivered purchases. Gambling chargebacks are heavily restricted: most UK card issuers will not process a gambling chargeback for buyer's remorse, and successful chargebacks against UKGC-licensed casinos are rare unless the underlying transaction was unauthorised.
Initiating a chargeback against a casino typically results in account closure and can have AML implications. The proper route for casino disputes is the operator's complaints process, escalating to the UKGC or to ADR providers (e.g. IBAS, eCogra ADR) if unresolved.
Example usage
- Initiate via card issuer's mobile app or by calling the bank directly
